Not long after the fall of the Alamo, a small Texas milling
company began building lasting relationships with area food
providers. More than 160 years later, C.H. Guenther & Son, Inc. is
still dedicated to its customers and to providing quality
grain-
based food solutions. Superior ingredients, product expertise
and customer service have
kept us a foodservice leader.

In 1851, 24-year-old Carl Hilmar Guenther brings his milling
expertise from Germany to America. He builds the San Antonio mill,
where he crafts “Guenther’s Best” – a premium flour. By 1900, C.H.
Guenther & Son had trademarked 12 new quality flour brands.

— 1900 to 1949 —
Americans are faced with unique challenges, including two world
wars and a severe economic depression. The company responds to wheat
rationing by introducing “Cornserve” flour during WWI, ground from
corn rather than wheat, and “Kaffarina” in WWII, made with
two-thirds corn flour. Shortly after the end of WWII, the company
introduces Pioneer Biscuit Mix to serve the emerging foodservice
segment.

and frozen foods in the late ’80s.
